Lady Lion Roberts places ninth at regional golf preview tournament
LUBBOCK — Brownwood Lady Lion Sydney Roberts placed ninth at the Region I-3A golf preview tournament held at Shadow Hills Golf Course over the weekend.
Roberts labored to an opening-round 90 in harsh conditions Friday, but rallied with a second-round score of 75 Saturday to card a 165 overall.
“On Friday, Sydney struggled with the wind, which was steady at 45-50 mph,” said Lady Lions golf coach Laura Martin. “The conditions were horrible. Skies were brown with huge tumble weeds blowing everywhere. After the first eight holes she settled down and played much better shooting a 90. Her goal that evening was to make it in the top 10.
“Saturday was much better weather with winds at 10-15 mph. Sydney’s last three holes it was gusting at 30 mph. Sometimes it is difficult to make a comeback after a high round, but I was so proud of her shooting a 75 on the second day which put her in ninth place for the tournament.”
Placing ahead of Roberts were Sarah Moore of Burkburnett (79-69=148), Ryan Pate of Midland Greenwood (83-69=152), Kalli Jennings of Andrews (72-81=153), Sarah Black of Andrews (87-76=154), Gabi Cano of Monahans (82-73=155), Kelsie Gunn of Big Spring (83-75=158), Hailey Burgen of Andrews (88-74=162) and Morgan Rogers of District 8-3A rival Lampasas (84-75=159).
The District 8-3A tournament will be held April 4 at Delaware Springs in Burnet and April 7 at Hancock Park in Lampasas, with the Region I-3A tournament slated for April 16-17 back at Shadow Hills.
