Lions baseball, Lady Lions softball both host Abilene Wylie Tuesday

Kristin Fuentes and the Brownwood Lady Lions (6-2) host Abilene Wylie at 7 p.m. Tuesday

The Brownwood Lions baseball team and the Lady Lions softball team are both home on the same date for the first time this season, while the District 6-2A softball and baseball races are also beginning.

The Lions (4-7) will be playing their home opener, and only game at Morris Southall Field prior to the start of District 8-3A action, at 5 p.m. today when they host Abilene Wylie.

The Lions notched a huge victory Friday night when they defeated No. 16 Lubbock Cooper, the reigning Region I-3A champion, by a 3-2 count in extra innings. However, Brownwood was unable to build on that momentum Saturday as it fell to Class 2A Grandview, 7-5, in 10 innings and Class 4A The Colony, 9-8, to close out the Robinson tournament.

Meanwhile, the Lady Lions (6-2) are facing their third consecutive foe from Abilene in a five-day stretch as the Wylie Lady Bulldogs visit at 7 p.m.

On Friday, the Lady Lions scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a 9-4 home victory over Abilene Cooper. On Saturday at Abilene High, however, the Lady Lions mustered just two hits in a 2-0 loss.

In the Class 2A ranks, both Early and Bangs begin their District 6-2A softball slates tonight.

The Lady Dragons are venturing to Grape Creek at 4 p.m., while the Lady Horns will journey to Brady at 5:30 p.m.

Baseball joins the fray Friday as the defending Region I-2A champion Dragons (4-5) host Coleman in their 6-2A opener, while the Longhorns (6-2-1) welcome Grape Creek. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Also Friday, the Lady Dragons host Coleman and the Lady Horns challenge Grape Creek at 5:30 p.m. on the softball diamond.
