Lady Lions softball falls to Lubbock Cooper, thumps host Graham in tourney action

GRAHAM — The Brownwood Lady Lions dropped their opener at the Tri-County tournament hosted by Graham Thursday, but rebounded with a win in the nightcap.

The Lady Lions were dealt a 5-2 loss at the hands of Lubbock Cooper only to rally for an 8-1 triumph over tournament host Graham.

In the victory over Graham, Alexis Larrea tossed a five-hitter, allowing one unearned run with five strikeouts and two walks.

Larrea also finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a pair of RBIs, while Alyson Finnigan finished 3-for-4 with a double. Kayla McFarden went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Shelbi Winstead also contributed a 2-for-4 effort at the plate.

In the loss to Lubbock Cooper, Finnigan stepped in the circle and surrendered five runs, only two earned, with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Victoria Sanchez was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and Finnigan finished 1-for-3 and drove in a run.

The Lady Lions will return to action today at noon against Mineral Wells followed by a 2 p.m. encounter against Springtown.
