Early, Bangs combine for four victories on diamond

COLEMAN — The Early Longhorns bounced back from their first District 6-2A loss to state-ranked Wall with a 5-1 victory at Coleman Friday afternoon.

Early (10-3-1, 4-1) scored twice in the third inning and added three runs in the fourth, while Coleman mustered its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.

Kellan Jackson and Nick Alcorta combined to toss a two-hitter. Jackson notched the win, working six innings with four strikeouts. Alcorta pitched the seventh, issuing a pair of walks.

The Longhorns tallied eight hits, led by two from Jackson and one apiece from Alcorta, Jared Crouch, Tres Underwood, Stephen Hlis, Abel Hernandez and Christopher Johnston. Alcorta, Crouch and Jackson were credited with RBIs.


Dragons 11, Brady 9

BRADY — The Bangs Dragons climbed back over the .500 mark in District 6-2A baseball action with an 11-9 win at Brady Friday afternoon.

Trailing 5-3 after three innings, the Dragons (7-7, 3-2) chalked up four runs in the fourth inning to grab a 7-5 edge, then tacked on four more runs over the final three innings. Brady, which trailed 11-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, pushed four runs across the plate in its final at-bat before the Dragons secured the victory.

Bangs’ 17-hit onslaught featured four and three RBIs from J.T. Newton, two hits and a pair of RBIs from Chane Burton, two hits and an RBI from both Chuy Alvarado and Brady Glover, one hit and a pair of RBIs from Mason Reichenau and three hits from Daniel Malett. Brayden James and Tanner Shaw also chipped in one hit apiece.

On the mound, Newton worked all seven innings and allowed four earned runs on 11 hits with 13 strikeouts and four walks.


Lady Dragons 8, Brady 6

BRADY — The Bangs Lady Dragons scored twice in the top of the fifth inning to break a 6-all tie en route to an 8-6 District 6-2A softball win at Brady Friday.

Bangs (12-2-1, 6-0) remained undefeated in district with the victory.

The Lady Dragons tallied 14 hits — three each by Jaylee Roberts, Maddie Browning and Kady Kyle, two by Courtney Owen and one each by Haley Pitts, Raelee Francois and Katelin Laird.

Roberts also finished with two RBIs while Owen, Browning and Kyle added one RBI each.

In the circle, Savanna Rosenbush pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.


Lady Horns 9, Coleman 1

COLEMAN — The Early Lady Horns improved to 5-1 in District 6-2A softball action and 12-7 overall with a 9-1 win at Coleman Friday.

Kassidy Allen tossed a one-hitter, while Samantha Hernandez tripled twice and singled once, and Janae Williams and Andee Jo Rose added two hits apiece.
