Brownwood competing in nine events at 87th annual Texas Relays
Brownwood High School will be represented in nine events at this weekend’s 87th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas. The meet takes place at Myers Stadium, which is also the site of the UIL state track and field meet each year.
Three Brownwood athletes — Lexie Lewis, Victoria Henry and Dylan Person — competed at the UIL state meet a year ago.
The Lady Lions will be represented by Ebonie Adams, Sharday Melvin, LaKisha Anthony and Lewis in the 800-meter relay and mile relay, Lewis in the 100 meters and Henry in both the shot put and discus.
Person will compete in the steeplechase — a 2,000-meter obstacle race — for the Lions, while all three relay teams — the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 — will be on hand. The 4x100 team is comprised of Connor Howard, Joe Zapata, Kaimon Ontiveros and Bruce Sterling, the 4x200 team is made up of Tristan Duque, Sterling, Ontiveros and Howard, and the 4x400 team consists of Chevy Robertson, Bryan Johnson, Duque and Colt Garrett.
Person will be the first from Brownwood to compete at 8:45 p.m. Thursday.
All other events will take place Friday with the exception of the girls shot put and both sprint relays, which are scheduled for Saturday morning. Any competitors who advance to the finals in their respective events will also be back in action Saturday afternoon.
An interview with Brownwood track and field head coach Don Hood regarding the Brownwood contingent headed to Austin will appear in Friday’s edition of the Bulletin.
