Lady Lions face Palestine at Robinson, Lions battle Nacogdoches in Corsicana
The second round awaits the Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions soccer teams, who both earned bi-district championships on Monday.
The Lady Lions (14-5-2), who advanced to the fourth round of the playoffs for the first time in program history a year ago, will battle District 35-4A champion Palestine in the Region III-4A area round at 7 p.m. Friday at Waco Robinson.
Meanwhile, the Lions (13-6-2) — who have already exceeded last year’s postseason push — will tangle with District 35-4A champion Nacogdoches at 6 p.m. Friday at Corsicana in a Region III-4A area round tilt.
The Lady Lions knocked off China Spring, 2-1, Monday for their fourth consecutive victory as Jennifer Martinez scored the game-winning goal from 30 yards out with just over four minutes remaining.
Tori Sanchez recorded the first goal for Brownwood with 26 minutes to go, but China Spring drew even with a little less than eight minutes left.
The Lions rolled past China Spring in a 4-1 victory Monday — their fourth in a row as well — as Brownwood tallied a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes and three overall in the opening half.
Austin Snyder scored twice, while Hugo Yebra and Dylan Person also chipped in goals for the Lions.
Palestine blanked District 36-4A fourth seed Navasota, 4-0, to advance to face the Lady Lions, while Nacogdoches posted a 5-0 victory against 36-4A fourth seed Sealy to move on to face the Lions.
The Lady Lions-Palestine winner will face either Brenham or Waco University in the sectional round of the playoffs, while the Lions-Nacogdoches victor will square off against either University or Palestine in the sectional round.
