Salazar competes in Greater West Texas Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game
Recent Brownwood High graduate Elijah Salazar competed in the Greater West Texas Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game in Lubbock on June 1.
Salazar — a member of the South/East team, which won, 8-6 — started in center field and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of singles and one stolen base.
Fellow former Lion Seth Owen was also selected to play in the game but was not able to attend due to previous travel plans.
Owen was selected Co-Defensive MVP and as a first-team all-district pitcher in District 8-3A. He finished his senior district campaign with a 1.14 ERA on the mound and 68 strikeouts, while batting .325 with a double, two triples and four RBIs from the leadoff spot.
Salazar was one of four Lions to receive honorable mention all-district status, along with junior Carson McAnally and sophomores Hayden Day and Rawlings Rios.
Salazar batted .235 in district with a double, six RBIs and seven runs scored. McAnally’s .353 district batting average tied for the team-high, as he also drove in two runs and scored four times. Day finished with a .297 district batting average with a home run, four doubles, one triple and 11 RBIs. Rios also produced a .353 district batting average with a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs scored.
The Lions finished tied for fourth place in District 8-3A and finished the season with a 9-19 overall record.
