Hawthorne served as assistant for the south team and the player pictured to the left is Keith Clardy (55) and the player on the right is Jakob Morgan (65). Both played on the offensive line for the south. Bangs and Brownwood also had players that were on the south team, J.T. Newton and Josh Truelove of Bangs, Dylan Lewis of Brownwood. All played great and represented their schools very well.

Playing in any all-star game is considered an honor by most athletes who partici pate, and Brown County high school athletes and coaches are no exception. Recently, several local athletes and cheerleaders participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) All-Star games.

The Big Country FCA Chapter web site states “We are committed to impacting Abilene, Texas, and the surrounding areas for Jesus Christ and exalting him through our coaches and athletes.”

After being nominated, area students compete in baseball, basketball, volleyball and football. Cheerleaders were also selected. Brown County athletes, regardless of the contest represented the south. Fellowship with other athletes is just as important as being selected to play, said Bangs Head Football Coach Chuck Lipsey. “I am excited Josh (Truelove) and JT (Newton) were selected to play,” Lipsey said. “The whole week is a neat experience. They both played great and definitely cont ributed and represent ed their school very well, but the chance to just be there is something I am glad they were able to experience.

Keith Clardy, a 2014 Early graduate and offensive lineman selection, spoke highly of the weeklong experience. “It was crazy to be playing on the same team as players from Bangs,” Clardy said. “We have only ever known each other on the field and never been really able to talk to them before, so it was pretty cool to learn about them, who they are and where they are going.” Aside from the fellowship and establishing new friendships, the game itself was the most intriguing aspect of the festival for Clardy. “It was great to play along some 5A schools. The game was definitely the most fun part.”
