The Brownwood Lady Lions will be seeking their second consecutive postseason appearance under second-year head coach Lorrie Beelby when their season begins in mid-August.

Like football, volleyball begins its preseason practices on Monday, Aug. 4, but the Lady Lions will hold their first scrimmages on Aug. 8 at De Leon and at home Aug. 9 against Dublin.

The regular season starts in Abilene — as has become tradition — on Aug. 12 as Brownwood will face both Abilene High and Abilene Cooper at Cooper High School. The Lady Lions will return to Abilene the weekend of Aug. 15-16 for the Bev Ball Classic.

Other non-district encounters include home games against Bangs (Aug. 19), Liberty Hill (Aug. 30), Glen Rose (Sept. 2), Abilene High (Sept. 5), Lampasas (Sept. 12) and Fredericksburg (Sept. 23).

Brownwood will hit the road to challenge Comanche (Aug. 26), Breckenridge (Sept. 9) and Gatesville (Sept. 16), along with playing in the Graham (Aug. 22-23) and Dublin (Aug. 28 and 30) tournaments.

The Lady Lions open play in the new District 6-4A on Sept. 26 at Mineral Wells, followed by home dates against Abilene Wylie (Sept. 30), Graham (Oct. 7), Stephenville (Oct. 14) and the return match against Mineral Wells (Oct. 14). Brownwood’s first district bye falls in its stretch of four consecutive home district games, as the Lady Lions will venture to Dublin on Oct. 3 for a non-district battle.

Brownwood will play its final three district matches on the road at Wylie on Oct. 17, at Graham on Oct. 24 and at Stephenville on Oct. 28. The Lady Lions will have Oct. 21 off for their second district bye with only five teams in 6-4A.

The Lady Lions posted a 12-21 overall record last season, 4-6 in District 8-3A, and qualified for the playoffs as the fourth seed. Brownwood bowed out in the first round of the playoffs to what is now district-rival Stephenville.
