The draws for the District 6-4A tennis tournament, hosted by Brownwood High School Monday and Tuesday, have been released, and a combined 10 Lion and Lady Lion entries will be vying for berths in the Region I-4A tournament.
In boys singles and doubles action, the four Lion entries all received byes into the second round — or quarterfinal action.
The doubles team of Casey Shannon and Zach Hall will challenge Jordan Garner and Marcus Montfort of Graham to begin tournament action, while the tandem of Bennie Salazar and Nate Bryant will battle Kellum Harris and Canaan Harris of Stephenville in the second round.
In singles competition, Brownwood’s Matthew Thompson will square off with Tavis Acuff of Mineral Wells in the second round while Kaden Thompson clashes with Colton Jeffress of Stephenville in the quarterfinals.
Girls singles action also features a pair of byes into the second round for the Lady Lions. Delaney Bennett will face either Karla Andrade of Mineral Wells or Sarah Smith of Stephenville, who meet in the opening round, in quarterfinals action. Meanwhile, Bailey Bishop and Rachel Bartholomew of Graham are destined for a second-round showdown.
The girls doubles draw features just eight entries, so there are no byes. Lady Lions Katherine Bautista and Emma Sharpe will open against Sydney Widner and Adriana Ustick of Graham, while Rosie Cadena and Brittney Blake meet Carson Couger and Makayla Nance of Mineral Wells with a semifinals berth at stake.
Eight entrants are all that comprise the mixed doubles field as well as Brownwood’s Phillip Trowbridge and Illiana Arenivas will test their mettle against Hayden Leggett and Molly Simonton of Mineral Wells, while Josh Dean and Karina Garcia open against Jeb Curry and Isabelle Ertl of Graham.
