The Abilene Wylie Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs occupy all 10 spots in the championship matches of the District 6-4A tennis tournament, but Brownwood still has an opportunity to earn as many as five regional berths.

The Wylie entries will meet for district championships, while the Brownwood entries will battle for third-place. If the Brownwood third-place winners, and the loser from the Wylie championship matches have not squared off in tournament action, the two will then do battle as part of the playback to determine the 6-4A runner-up. If the championship loser has already defeated the third-place winner, the loser of the championship match will be the district’s second regional qualifier, joining the champion.

“This is the toughest we’ve played Wylie in seven or eight years,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Mark Davis. “Our boys doubles, girls doubles and girls singles pushed them. Even though we’re not in the finals, we still have some chances on playbacks. There’s nobody left in the tournament except us and Wylie.”

Play resumes at 9 a.m. today at the Brownwood High School tennis courts.
