DISTRICT 7-3A SOFTBALL/BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Longhorns, Lady Horns topple Brady

BRADY — The Early Longhorns finished the first half of District 7-3A baseball action undefeated with a 7-2 win at Brady Monday.

Early (11-4, 4-0) scored single runs in the first and third innings, added two in the fourth and tacked on three more in the seventh.

Brady’s two runs scored in the sixth inning.

Nick Alcorta tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks. Alcorta also homered, tripled and drove in a team-high three RBIs.

Abel Hernandez finished with two hits while Cojo Guidry, Christopher Johnston, and Tristan Horton contributed one hit and one RBI each. Grant Fanara, Bubba Reynolds and Dillon Walters also tallied hits.

LADY HORNS 10, BRADY 0

BRADY — The Early Lady Horns snapped a two-game District 7-3A losing streak and finished the first half of league play at .500 thanks to Monday’s 10-0 victory at Brady.

Early (9-7, 2-2) received 16 strikeouts from MaKayla DeLeon, who tossed a three-hitter and issued one walk.

At the plate, the Lady Horns recorded 15 hits — three each by Parker Smith, Ramsie Rodgers and Beale Madison Gordon, two apiece by Lily Reagan and Shaunna Pinson and one each from DeLeon and Andee Jo Rose.

Early scored its first run in the third inning as Smith walked with one out, moved to second on a Rodgers sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Reagan.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Horns put eight runs on the board. DeLeon led off with a single to left followed by a bunt single from Gordon. Pinson’s RBI single produced the second run, then Smith singled home Gordon to stretch the lead to 3-0. A two-RBI triple by Rodgers plated Smith and Pinson to increase the advantage to 5-0.

Reagan’s line drive to left scored Rodgers, while Rose’s RBI single brought home Reagan. DeLeon then delivered an RBI single, Gordon chipped in an RBI double and Pinson closed the fourth-inning onslaught with an RBI single to plate Gordon.

Early added one final run in the top of the seventh as Smith doubled with two outs and scored on Rodgers’ RBI single.

DRAGONS 6, COMANCHE 2

COMANCHE — The Bangs Dragons notched their first District 7-3A baseball victory of the season, 6-2, at Comanche Monday.

The Dragons (6-9-1, 1-3) mustered just three hits, but drew five walks and took advantage of three Comanche errors.

Chance Beck tossed a complete-game, six-hitter for the Dragons, walking two and striking out a pair.

Bangs scored twice in the third inning, once in the fourth and twice more in the sixth before Comanche struck for its two runs. The Dragons tacked on one more insurance run in the seventh.

Mason Reichenau finished with a hit and two RBIs for Bangs, while Beck and Charlie Bettis also collected hits. Kolton Jacobs recorded two RBIs without the benefit of a hit and Colton Brewer added one RBI.

COMANCHE 3, LADY DRAGONS 1

COMANCHE — The Bangs Lady Dragons suffered their first District 7-3A softball loss, 3-1, at Comanche Monday.

Bangs (16-4, 3-1) managed just two hits against Madison Hagood, a double by Cheyenne Edwards and a Haley Pitts single. Nichole Spivey notched the Lady Dragons’ RBI.

Erin Anderson gave up only four hits and one earned run with five strikeouts and three walks.

Comanche scored twice in the third inning and once in the sixth, with Bangs’ run crossing the plate in the fifth.
