Blanket's Kinkade siblings both in top 5 at midway point of Class A state golf tournament
AUSTIN — Blanket Lady Tiger Marki Kinkade sits in second place, while her brother, Luke Kinkade, holds down fourth place halfway through the UIL Class A state golf tournament at Lions Municipal Golf Course.
In girls action, Marki Kinkade fired an opening round 82 Wednesday, which left her just four strokes behind leader Shaley Goad of Briscoe Fort Elliott, who posted a first-round 78.
Meanwhile, Luke Kinkade finished with a first-round 80 Wednesday as his effort trailed only the 73 of Mitchell Downing of Happy and the 77s of Lanham Brown of Throckmorton and Matthew Orsak of Moulton.
The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played today.
As a team, the Blanket Tigers held down eighth place after the first round, carding a composite score of 404. The Tigers trailed only Throckmorton (337), Happy (342), Bronte (358), Motley County (360), Grady (385), Munday (393) and Moulton (394).
Toby Florence chipped in a 98 for the Tigers followed by Jason Schwab with a 112, James Frink with a 114 and Jordan Chasteen with a 132.
Other local golfers competing in the boys portion of the tournament include Garrett Drummond from Sidney, who sits in 15th place following an 89, and Justin Hallmark of Richland Springs, who carded an opening 97.
