EARLY — The Early Lady Horns are in the driver’s seat as they look to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Lady Horns, on their home turf, blanked Breckenridge, 6-0, Thursday to open a Region I-3A softball bi-district playoff series. Games 2 and 3, if needed, begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Abilene Christian University.

MaKayla DeLeon tossed a two-hit shutout for Early (12-10), striking out nine and walking four.

Offensively, the Lady Horns chalked up eight hits and scored their runs in the third and sixth innings.

In bottom of the third, Shaunna Pinson led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Gabby Constancia was then hit by a pitch in front of a one-out RBI single by Ramsie Rodgers. DeLeon followed with a two-RBI triple that plated Rodgers and Constancia to extend the lead to 3-0.

Early tacked on three more runs in the sixth as DeLeon led off with a single and scored on an RBI triple by Lily Reagan. Beale Madison Gordon followed with an RBI single of her own, which plated Reagan. A squeeze bunt by Andee Jo Rose followed, which scored Gordon with the final run.

The series winner will face either Colorado City or Grape Creek in the area round.
