Unbeaten Lady Lions add three more victories at Abilene tournament
ABILENE — The Brownwood Lady Lions kept their unbeaten record intact throughout the Abilene Icebreaker tournament, notching three more victories Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Lions knocked off Lubbock High, 12-2, and San Angelo Lake View, 6-0, on Friday, then rolled over Merkel, 9-0, Saturday.
In the victory over Lubbock High, Brownwood scored three runs in the first inning, two each in the second and third and five runs in the fifth inning.
The Lady Lions finished with 13 hits, including seven for extra bases.
Offensive standouts included Annie Gillispie with two doubles, a single, and one RBI; Aubrie Harris with a single and an RBI; Ashlynn Patteson with a double, single and two RBIs; Auzzlyn Benedict with a triple, double and pair of RBIs; Ayanna Clemons with a double, single and RBI; Landry Holden with a single and an RBI; and Annie-Klein Allgood with a double, single and RBI.
Chyanne Ellett picked up the victory in the circle, allowing two runs on four hits with 13 strikeouts and three walks.
In the win over Lake View, Allgood took to the circle and pitched a shutout with four strikeouts, no walks and five hits allowed.
At the plate, the Lady Lions pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the third.
Brownwood’s seven-hit attack featured a single, double and two RBIs from Maddie Yazell; a double and a pair of RBIs from Benedict; a triple and an RBI from Gillispie; one single and one RBI each from Harris and Patteson; and a single from Yisel Mendoza.
In the weekend finale against Merkel, Ellett was back in the circle and tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts, giving her 85 strikeouts to only seven walks on the season.
At the plate, Brownwood generated three runs in the first inning, four in the second and two more in the third.
Patteson led the charge with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs; Ellett added two hits, with a double, and three RBIs; Harris notched two hits, drove in a run and scored three times; Gillispie added two hits and a pair of runs; Holden singled and plated a runner; and Benedict and Lexie Castillo added base hits as well.
The Lady Lions (6-0-1) have added a 5 p.m. Monday home game against Coleman to their schedule.
