Sparked a nine-run third inning, and a one-hit pitching performance from Annie-Klein Allgood, the Brownwood Lady Lions kept their undefeated record intact with a 15-0 home victory over Coleman Monday.

Allgood, who also toed the rubber during Brownwood’s 4-0-1 effort at the Abilene Icebreaker tournament over the weekend, recorded her second shutout in as many starts. Allgood gave up a one-out single in the top of the fifth, while another Coleman baserunner reached on a one-out fourth inning error. Allgood also tallied four strikeouts and did not issue a walk.

“She’s pitching with some confidence and has good movement on the ball,” Lady Lions head coach Jessica Lynn said. “She’s keeping hitters off balance and getting some easy ground balls to the infielders and they’re making those plays.”

Brownwood committed just one miscue in the field as the defense was as busy as it’s been at any point this season.

“Going into this weekend we’re going to see some good teams that will probably put the ball in play a lot, so it was good to see them going out and making plays and doing it confidently,” Lynn said.

Offensively, the Lady Lions generated 11 hits, drew seven walks and took advantage of two Coleman errors. Standouts included Chyanne Ellett with three hits and five RBIs; Auzzlyn Benedict with a pair of hits and four RBIs; Aubrey Holden and Aubrie Harris with one hit and two RBIs apiece; Lexie Castillo with one hit and one RBI; and Annie Gillispie, Ashlynn Patteson and Allgood with one hit each.

“Overall everyone did a really good job putting the bat on the ball really hard,” Lynn said. “We were trying to get a loook at different people in different positions, and it was a good team win, everyone contributed.”

Brownwood grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Benedict reached on a two-out fielding error that allowed Harris, who walked with one out, to come home.

The Lady Lions then put the game out of reach with nine runs in the third, including eight runs with two outs. Patteson and Ellett began the frame with conseuctive singles, then Benedict plated Patteson on an RBI ground out. Yisel Mendoza followed with a walk then, with two down, Holden ripped a two-RBI double to center field to drive in Ellett and Mendoza. Allgood was then hit by a pitch and Gillispie reached on an infield single to load the bases. Harris delivered a two-RBI single that plated Holden and Cailtyn Moody, running for Allgood, then Patteson walked to again fill the sacks. Ellett unloaded the bases with a three-RBI double to deep center field, then Benedict doubled in Ellett to cap the scoring, giving the Lady Lions a 10-0 cushion.

Brownwood tacked on five more insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth as Maddie Yazell reached on a leadoff error and scored on Castillo’s two-out RBI triple. Harris and Patteson followed with walks ahead of a two-RBI double to center by Ellett. Benedict followed with a two-RBI single up the middle to drive in the final two runs.

The Lady Lions (7-0-1) will be back in action Thursday through Saturday at the Granbury tournament.

“This weekend we play four 5A schools so we’re going to have be on our ‘A’ game, but we’re all looking forward to playing some tough teams that are going to push us a lot.”
