HPU places 26 on ASC all-academic honor roll

More than 400 student-athletes from 12 member institutions were recognized by the American Southwest Conference on the 2014 Winter/Spring All-Academic honor roll, which was released Wednesday.

A total of 26 Howard Payne student-athletes earned recognition in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s track and field, as well as sports information student assistants and student athletic trainers.

The following are the HPU recipients:

BASEBALL: Kody Cissna, Sophomore, Criminal Justice; Will Roberts, Sophomore, Business; Kyle Kulczyk, Senior, Business Administration; Neal Kucinski, Sophomore, Business Marketing; Connor Roberts, Junior, Accounting; Lucas Creed, Graduate Student, MBA.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Jorden Young, Junior, Exercise and Sport Science; Ross Whittet, Senior, Management-Marketing; Blake Arbogast, Junior, Exercise and Sport Science; Quelan Lancaster, Sophomore, Criminal Justice.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Kyndal Broome, Junior, Business Management; Shardena Hudson, Senior, CIS-Multimedia; Britani Gattis, Senior, Biology.

SOFTBALL: Erin McLeod, Junior, Biology; Amanda Gober, Junior, Psychology; Pricilla Patino, Senior, Criminal Justice; Shandi Winstead, Junior, Communication.

MEN’S TENNIS: Marshal McIntosh, Sophomore, Communication; Andrew Harding, Junior, Biology.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Samantha Guerrero, Senior, English Language Arts; Whitney Turnacliff, Senior, Elementary Education.

STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINERS: Kristin Haman, Sophomore; Ruth Davis, Freshman; Mary Kunkel, Junior; Joan Burks, Senior; Dillan Hanks, Senior.

To be eligible for ASC all-academic honors, student-athletes must be classified academically as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student during the competition season and have been in attendance and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their institution. They must also have a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average as certified at the conclusion of the academic semester in which the ASC sport championship is held.
