Lions place fifth, Blanket eighth at Stephenville golf tournament

STEPHENVILLE — The Brownwood Lions golf team fired a 355 composite score to place fifth at the Stephenville Optimist Invitational Wednesday at Legends Country Club.

The Lions trailed Fort Worth Trinity Valley (313) and District 6-4A rivals Graham (320), Stephenville (335) and Abilene Wylie (351).

Jaryn Pruitt carded an 82 to pace the Lions’ effort, which was tied for the fourth-best round of the tournament. Grant Lewis added an 88 followed by Parker Dorsett with a 90, Miller Baugh with a 95 and Ben Kallman with a 99.

The Blanket Tigers came in eighth overall, carding a 411 team score.

Luke Kinkade led the charge for the Tigers with an 82 followed by Toby Florence with an 87, Jason Schwab with a 113 and Liam Menchaca with a 129.

In girls action at Stephenville Wednesday, the Blanket Lady Tigers placed fourth as team, led by Marki Kinkade’s second-place individual round of 80.

The Lions return to Stephenville Wednesday for the first round of the 36-hole District 6-4A tournament. The final 18 holes will be played March 30 at Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene.
