Pruitt in second place, Lions third overall halfway through 6-4A boys golf tourney

STEPHENVILLE — At the midway point of the District 6-4A boys golf tournament, one Brownwood Lion is in position to advance to regionals while the entire team is seven strokes off the pace for a berth.

Brownwood's Jaryn Pruitt fired a round of 76 Wednesday at Legends Country Club, trailing only the 74 of Graham's Coby Bryant. Meanwhile, the Lions carded a 358 overall, which left them behind front-running Graham (328) and second-place Stephenville (351).

The top two teams from district advance to the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course on April 11-12. The two individuals not on qualifying teams will also advance and based Wednesday's outing Pruitt holds downs the No. 1 spot with Stephenville's Colten Jefress (83) seven shots behind and Yellow Jacket Clay Krause (84) eight shots off the pace.

Miller Baugh chipped in a 93 for the Lions, Grant Lewis carded a 94, Parker Dorsett posted a 95 and Ben Kallman fired a 100.

Brownwood's No. 2 team was in eighth place following Wednesday's round with a 462 composite score. Comprising the team were Caden Newbern (111), Tyler Chew (113), Rylee Nunn (114), Jason McBride (124) and Quade Infinger (125).

The final round of the 36-hole 6-4A tournament will take place Wednesday, March 30 at Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene.
