Blanket boys, girls claim District 19-A golf championships
PROCTOR — The Blanket Tigers and Lady Tigers captured District 19-A golf championships Wednesday at PAR Country Club.
The Lady Tigers fired a 390 team score, outdistancing runner-up Priddy (544) by 154 strokes and third-place Zephyr (546) by 156. The Tigers finished with a 405 team tally, 85 strokes clear of second-place Zephyr (490).
The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the Region III-A tournament at Legends Country Club in Stephenville April 11-12.
Along with the Tigers, Lady Tigers, Bulldogs and Lady Pirates, Zephyr girls Kensli Rockafellow (130) and Kaylee Cash (131) qualified for regionals, as did Sidney’s Garrett Drummond (86) and Priddy’s Chandler Hurst (103).
Tiger Luke Kinkade earned the boys individual district crown with a round of 76, which was 10 strokes better than Drummond (86). Blanket’s Toby Florence placed third with an 87, while teammates Jason Schwab (101) and Liam Menchaca (141) rounded out the Tiger effort.
Lady Tiger Marki Kinkade won the girls district title with a round 81, which was 16 strokes better than teammate and tournament runner-up Emily Furry (97). Blanket’s Cassie Furry finished third with a 101, while Kenzie Tidwell chipped in a 111.
For the runner-up and regional bound Zephyr boys, Keifer Vernon carded a 111 trailed by Bishop Norman with a 114, Kason King with a 126, Zack Miller with a 128 and Hadley Spieckerman with a 134.
Also competing for the Zephyr girls were Kendra McCarty (135), Sidney Mangus (150) and Aspen Williams (154).
The Zephyr No. 2 boys team also hit the links Wednesday and turned in a 562 composite score. Golfers included Jacob King (121), Kaleb Williams (144), Nicholas Moody (148), Shon Patrick Reedy (149) and Walter Simpson (155).
