Joey Mojica paces Lehman ground game in shutout win over Navarro

Lehman head coach Bruce Salmon led the Lobos to a 61-0 win over Navarro Thursday.

Lehman dominated Navarro Early College in all aspects of the game, rolling to a 61-0 win. The Lobos scored on their first seven possessions and were rarely challenged in their first win of the season.

Coming off a 28-27 loss to Marble Falls in the season opener, Lehman (1-1) had little difficulty correcting and improving on that game. After picking off Navarro on the Vikings’ first possession, it took Lehman six plays to dent the scoreboard for the first of many times as Joey Mojica rambled 6 yards for a touchdown.

Then, disaster struck Navarro (0-1) on consecutive plays. A lateral and incomplete pass was ruled a fumble, giving Tanner Johnson an easy 18-yard fumble return for a 13-0 lead. Then, on the ensuing kickoff, the Vikings fumbled, giving Lehman a short field that paid off with a 25-yard Marshall Du Kett field goal. Less than five minutes into the game, the Lobos were up 16-0. Lehman didn’t slow down till after a 40-0 halftime lead.

The Lobos ended the night with an even 400 yards rushing on only 28 carries. Mojica led the way with 153 yards, all in the first half.

Lehman will complete non-district play Friday by hosting San Antonio Southwest. Navarro will begin district play against Northeast Early College Friday.
