Brownwood Lions' regular-season finale at Midlothian Heritage canceled

Special to the Brownwood Bulletin
The Brownwood Lions prepare to kick off against Midland Greenwood on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.

The Brownwood football team's regular-season finale, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Midlothian Heritage, has been canceled, Brownwood head coach Sammy Burnett confirmed Tuesday.

If played, the final regular-season game would not have impacted the playoff seeding of any District 5-4A Division I team.

Heritage (8-2 overall, 4-0 in district) is the district champion and No. 1 playoff seed. Waco La Vega (7-2, 3-1) will be the No. 2 seed, Stephenville (5-5, 3-2) the No. 3 seed, and Brownwood (4-5, 2-2) the No. 4 seed.

Burnett said after Monday’s district loss to La Vega that Heritage would make the decision whether to play Brownwood on Saturday as part of the agreement by the District 5-4A DI executive committee that allowed the Lions to rescind COVID-19 forfeits to La Vega and Heritage.

Brownwood has set its Class 4A DI bidistrict game against Kennedale (7-0-1) for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Kennedale. The Wildcats are the No. 1 seed from District 6-4A.
