Richland Springs continues title defense with win over Oglesby

The Richland Springs Coyotes are in the state quarterfinals once again.

The defending state champions held off Oglesby 70-38 on Friday in their Class 1A Division II area-round playoff game in Hico.

No. 23-ranked Oglesby represented itself well against No. 6 Richland Springs after trailing 32-8 at halftime.

Oglesby pulled within 38-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Richland Springs pulled away down the stretch to improve to 10-0 on the year.

The Coyotes advanced to play No. 7 Calvert in the state quarterfinals next week at a time and site to be determined.

The two schools have had some outstanding playoff meetings over the years, including a 34-29 win by Richland Springs last year.

Zane Capps rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries to lead the Coyotes against Oglesby.

Capps also had a touchdown catch, along with an interception on defense.

Landon Burkhart was 10-of-13 passing for 145 yards and four TDs.

Jadeyn Bryant caught two TD passes, he had a team-high 12 tackles, and he returned a kickoff for a TD.

Chase Gossett had two interceptions on defense, along with a TD catch.

Oglesby (10-2) was led by Davin Barrow with 96 rushing yards and three TDs on 25 carries. He also threw a TD pass.

Coltin Brock had seven catches for 131 yards and two TDs.
