Brownwood HOSA students win at state competition

Brownwood High School’s HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students returned from a successful trip to State competition in with many accolades and scholarships. “It was such an exciting time to be able to present five of our students scholarships on stage at the State Leadership Conference,” said Bonita Deen, health science technology teacher and Texas HOSA Board of Directors past president.

Defendants sentenced in district court

The following defendants were sentenced recently in 35th Judicial District Court, District Attorney Micheal Murray's office said: Christopher Bradley Rose pleaded guilty to two offenses of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Judyth Elizondo pleaded guilty to assault against public servant and was sentenced to seven years in prison.

BMS Music Students Enjoy New Sight Reading Tools Thanks to Foundation Grant

Seventh and eighth grade choir students at Brownwood Middle School have been improving a specific and crucial skill for music education — their sight reading skills. Students are using iPads to sight read on Google classroom using a sight reading subscription provided by the Brownwood Education Foundation, middle school choir director Kristi Wied said.

Woman’s long-held opinion of brother-in-law comes out

Dear Abby: My sister and I have always been close. She’s married to a man I have always thought is domineering and arrogant. I also suspect that he’s emotionally abusive from things she has confided over the years. These include days of the silent treatment, refusing to celebrate her birthday because he doesn’t believe in it and discouraging her from taking a job she was interested in. He refuses to go to counseling and says whatever problems there are between them are her fault. I hold my tongue and try to tolerate him because she has chosen to stay with him.
