Finding good excuses for staying indoors this summer

The day of the week I usually mow the yard came and went. Putting off that chore was an easy decision. The lawn was certainly in need of a trim after last week’s rains, but the weather had turned hot. Crazy hot. The mornings have been within my comfort level for outdoor work, but those hours are reserved for reading and drinking coffee, so I had that excuse. Besides, I’ve read that taller lawns can help them survive extreme summers.

Art of Fiber exhibit coming to downtown Brownwood

Local fiber artists will bring the ancient skills of spinning and weaving to life this Sunday, as part of the Art of Fiber exhibit currently at the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood. Linda Morris, Cary Perrin and Greg Hancock, all participating artists in the premiere “Art of Fiber” show, will demonstrate how yarn is traditionally created on a spinning wheel, and then used for weaving.

‘One more step’

EARLY — The City of Early’s Town Center project received a big boost Monday with the awarding of a $50,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority. LCRA general manager Phil Wilson, accompanied by other representatives of the nonprofit public agency, presented an oversized check to Early city officials at site where a restaurant will be built, overlooking a pond that will be developed for recreational use.
