Lake Brownwood at 69 percent capacity
John Allen, general manager of the Brown County Water Improvement District, gave another update of Lake Brownwood’s condition as of Monday morning. The lake was 6.3 feet below spillway and at 69 percent capacity.
Brownwood’s proposed budget online, at library
The City of Brownwood’s proposed budget for the 2022-’23 fiscal year is available at the Brownwood Public Library and on the city’s website. City council member will have a public hearing on the proposed $39.6 million budget on Aug. 30, and will consider adopting the tax rate on Sept. 6 on first reading and on Sept. 13 with second and third readings.
Brownwood Public Library receives two state grants
The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to the Brownwood Public Library under its Community Advancement Packages (CAP) grant program. The Brownwood Library qualified for two CAP Grants.The Trauma-Informed Collection Package gave the Brownwood Library resources to create a more welcoming environment for those who have experienced trauma.
Firefighting helicopter pilot loves helping people
Seated in the cockpit of a large Sikorski S-61 firefighting helicopter parked at the Brownwood airport, Savannah Montero explained some of the dynamics of controlling the aircraft. She pointed to controls including the cyclic and collective, the engine controls and the floor pedals.
Lions’ defense shines in Decatur scrimmage
For the second straight scrimmage, the Brownwood Lions’ defense showed signs of being a stingy unit during the 2021 football season. It was an intersquad scrimmage last weekend, but in Friday’s first test against another team at Gordon Wood Stadium, Brownwood’s defense officially kept the Decatur Eagles out of the end zone.
