The Brownwood Lions are planning to scrap their fast-pace philosophy in favor of a slower pace for Friday’s 7:30 p.m. nondistrict football game at the No. 1-ranked Stephenville Yellow Jackets in the 82nd Battle of Highway 377 rivalry game.
A group from North Lake Community Church presented Sheriff Vance Hill, members of his staff and three 9-1-1 dispatchers with with tokens of appreciation and words of encouragement Tuesday morning outside the Law Enforcement Center.

The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets have beaten the Sul Ross State Lobos three straight times, including last year’s 73-30 rout in Brownwood. But the Lobos have changed their stripes since last year.
Earlier this month, I mentioned my youthful fascination with boundary lines. “Fascination” is not the word I’d use to describe my current attitude on that topic, but it remains an interest.
Four members of previous Brownwood Lions teams will be inducted this year into the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions. In addition, the 1970 State Championship football team will be honored. The Hall of Champions missed recognizing the 50th anniversary of this accomplishment in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The Class 3A Longhorns twice rallied from a double-digit deficit and took a 48-41 lead late in the game. But the Class 4A Bulldogs had the final rally, and made a two-point conversion to win 49-48. Early is open this week and starts District 2-3A Division II play next Friday, Oct. 7, at Ballinger.
FRISCO (AP) — Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hyped a nonexistent quarterback controversy after Cooper Rush won filling in for the injured Dak Prescott last week. Even though Rush did it again in the first NFC East game for the defending division champs, Jones had come back to his senses.
The first full weekend of conference games in the Big 12 includes a rematch of last year’s championship game as ninth-ranked Oklahoma State plays at 16th-ranked Baylor. The Bears won the title game last December. Oklahoma State is the league’s highest-scoring team at nearly 52 points a game. Baylor opened Big 12 play with a win at Iowa State. Undefeated Kansas with standout quarterback Jalon Daniels is home this week against the Cyclones. No. 18 Oklahoma plays at TCU; No. 25 Kansas State hosts Texas Tech; and West Virginia is at Texas.
