Post office served since 1858

This was taken from a Brownwood Bulletin article, May 1937 With the exception of a short time during the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War, Brownwood citizens have had the services of a post office since the organization of the county, and, during that time, over a score of persons have served as postmasters. It was August 24, 1858, that the first post office was established in the city with the pioneer citizen, Robert C. Brown, as postmaster. Brown arrived in the county the previous year and served in the capacity of postmaster for nearly a year when he was succeeded by Wiley B, Hamilton, November 3, 1858. There is a small Brown family cemetery near the Early, Texas city park where McDonaldField was located.
