Spinning tops flung long ago finally stopped, they were like the season’s final flailing of turkeys soon to be main courses on Thanksgiving tables. For some journalists, however, minds continue to spin--conjuring, probing, marveling and expressing--thoughts about life, sometimes exceeding sublime or falling short of ridiculous.
Green sparks Lady Lions in 52-22 win over Early
Brownwood Lady Lions basketball coach Heather Hohertz-Perez sent reserve guard Kimber Green into Monday afternoon’s game to provide a spark. Green ended up starting something closer to a three-alarm fire.
14 Jackets listed on All-ASC football team
Fourteen Howard Payne players were recognized on the 2022 All-American Southwest Conference football team after a vote by the league’s head coaches. Yellow Jackets voted to the first team were wide receiver Otis Lanier and defensive back Kyle Bell.
Daub’s defense an unsung part of Lions’ success
There are a lot of reasons why the Brownwood Lions’ defense is allowing just 15.2 points and 267.5 total yards per game – both excellent statistics in this era of high-scoring offensive football. End Quinten McCarty is controlling the line of scrimmage with 110 tackles, including a team-high 14 for loss.
13 sentenced in felony court cases
Thirteen defendants were recently sentenced in 35th Judicial District Court, District Attorney Micheal Murray’s office reported. According to Murray’s office: Jonathan Ray Jones pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Celebrities face Texas investigation for endorsements of crypto firm
Texas is investigating celebrities who had endorsed FTX, the now bankrupt cryptocurrency firm, for potentially violating state securities laws. The Texas State Securities Board started looking into FTX’s operations last month over whether the exchange’s yield-bearing crypto accounts were providing residents with unregistered securities.
Two women indicted on evidence tampering charges
The November session of the Brown County Grand Jury returned indictments for tampering with or fabricating evidence against Dawn Hill-Flesner, the mother of deceased child HardiQuinn Hill, and Jamie Anderson, who lived with Hill at 700 Avenue C in Brownwood. Brownwood police arrested Hill-Flesner, 47, and Anderson, 42, on warrants on Sept.
