Typical birthday celebration has a different vibe

In most years, my birthday falls during the week our family spends in the Davis Mountains. By “family,” I mean the family into which I was married more than a half-century ago. But because of the way the calendar falls in 2025, we’re already home several days before my birthday after our week in the family cabin between Alpine and Marfa.
