t’s been a fairly typical February here in west central Texas, at least when it comes to the weather. The temperatures have been like a yo-yo , up and down, up and down. When they were up, they were sometimes way up, close to 90°. And then came thenear record lows that left our plants shivering. If you’re wondering what this weather report has to do with gardening this time of year, in one word, EVERYTHING!
Howard Payne University alumna Patty Villarreal ’75 and HPU student Eunice Cruz were honored at the Shine Conference, an event presented by the Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas (Convención) on February 21-22. Attending on behalf of HPU was Jordan Villanueva ’13, assistant to the president for Hispanic relations and instructor of Christian studies.

Howard Payne University recently formed Gold and Blue Partnership programs with Carroll ISD (CISD), in Southlake, Texas, and Santa Fe Christian School (SFC) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The partnerships will provide automatic acceptance for students from each school who graduate within the top 50 percent of their respective classes and have a 3.5 GPA. The Gold and Blue Partnership Scholarship, valued at $60,000 over eight semesters, will also be provided to graduates in the top 50 percent of their classes from each school.

Several students from the Brownwood High School Band competed at the Region UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 22. Band students earned a total of 10 Division 1 medals for Solos and 5 Division 1 medals for Ensemble.
