Howard Payne University’s Spanish for Law Enforcement and Social Work class concluded with a special ceremony honoring the students’ completion of coursework on December 5. The curriculum was designed to teach Spanish specifically for application in the law enforcement and social work fields. Spanish for Law Enforcement has been offered as a class in previous years, but this was the first time that the course’s content was expanded to also include social work. The course, which is expected to be offered every other fall semester, was taught by Dr. Danny Brunette-López, professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies at HPU.

EARLY — Early City Secretary Brenda Kilgo has been named Municipal Clerk of the Year for the Texas Municipal Clerks Association Bluebonnet Chapter.
Howard Payne University received recognition of a 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) at the SACSCOC Annual Meeting in Austin on Dec. 10. The university submitted a 10-year reaffirmation compliance report to SACSCOC that included responding to 73 compliance standards. After review, HPU had zero findings of non-compliance. Dr. Cory Hines, HPU president, attended the meeting as a delegate to receive the news.

Howard Payne University was recently notified that the university has been selected as a recipient of a $90,000 Department Grant from the Robert A. Welch Foundation. The grant will be distributed over the next three years beginning in June 2025. The Welch Foundation is committed to the mission of “Advancing Chemistry and Improving Life” through grant-making in several capacities, all relating to chemistry.
The organization Revitalizing Our Community (ROC) intended to be a "holiday blessing to the to the community" with its first annual Holiday Blessing Food Giveaway the morning of Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Brownwood ISD named Pettis Allgood as its December Spotlight teacher and Tisha Goodrich as Spotlight staff.
